454 Casull Ammo
325 gr. L.B.T. - L.F.N. @
1,525 fps/M.E. 1,678 ft lbs
20 Round Box

ITEM 7A

The .454 Casull is one cartridge that Buffalo Bore Ammunition does not load to its full pressure limit. When loaded to its full pressure potential the .454 Casull can become unreliable and unpleasant to shoot. At upper-pressure levels, heavy bullets tend to jump crimp - tying up the cylinder. (wouldn't this be great in an emergency) Also, fired brass can stick in the chambers.

Buffalo Bore Ammunition feels that a 360 gr. bullet at 1425 fps (or 325 gr. bullet at 1,525 fps) is still very powerful, comfortable to shoot, and TOTALLY RELIABLE. At these levels, these bullets give up nothing in killing performance.

Running these loads through a S&W 460V (5 in) for WY backcountry carry gun. 3 shot groups off bench hover around 1 in. @ 25 yards. The weight & porting on the S&W make them reasonably controllable for a fast follow-up shot - without hearing protection I'm sure they would make your ears ring. Some may be critical of this combo as too heavy to carry, etc. I'm 63 years old and made the commitment to practice/carry a serious load and backcountry firearm. So far the best "bear" load I've ever carried; haven't seen one closer than 200 yards since I started with this combo.

Beautiful stuff. my BFR is my first big-bore magnum six gun after a few years shooting New Vaqueros and puffball .45 Colt rounds. I got some of BB's heavy .45LC , but I also grabbed some .454 in the same grain weight because it's a .454 after all and you have to try it at least once. Anyway hand surgery last year left the BFR gathering dust until my cousin suddenly decided he wanted to shoot the thing. So I went to the range expecting my hand to hate me forever for the torture I was about to inflict on it, but to my surprise it wasn't bad at all. The recoil is authoritative but not excessively punishing if you take a good two hand grip and let your arms take the recoil. The round blew the frost bitten pumpkin I was using as a target clean in half which was more impressive then the twelve gauge I had been using on the ones next to it. Over all excellent job by Buffalo Bore and exciting to shoot while remaining controllable.
