NEW BUFFALO BORE APPAREL
BUFFALO BORE 500 JRH AMMUNITION - aka, 500 S&W Short
350 gr JHP @ 1500 fps
20 Round Box
Due to a large number of requests over the years and my affection for this effective big game cartridge, Buffalo Bore is announcing a line of different loads in 500 JRH. Item #44C is a 350 gr. jacketed hollow nose, expanding, .500 inch diameter bullet @ an advertised velocity of 1500 FPS out of the typical 5.5-inch to a 6-inch barreled revolver.
This bullet is designed to expand radically at intended impact velocities into living mammalian tissues. Expect a mushroom of about .85 caliber and penetration of around 18-24 inches depending on which bones are struck. This would be the ideal load for hunting smaller big game species, where very deep penetration is not needed and the bigger wound channel from an expanded bullet is desirable, such as deer or medium size black bear.
As an added bonus, this ammunition can be used/fired in any 500 S&W chambered firearm.
The 500 JRH cartridge was designed by gun builder Jack Huntington (775-355-6898) to fit the Freedom Arms model 83 and other similarly sized revolvers. As such, it has nearly the same case head (.006 smaller in diameter) as the 500 S&W. With its slightly smaller case head, it will fit the tight ratchet system of the Freedom Arms model 83 and will still work great in any 500 S&W firearm…………but if you want a smaller more packable revolver than the giant X frame S&W, this cartridge fits right into any converted Ruger Blackhawk, Red hawk or FA model 83.
Magnum Research (BFR) has been making their fine factory revolver chambered in the 500 JRH (Pillager Model) for years, but sales have been limited due to a lack of factory ammunition, which is why Buffalo Bore has come on-board.
Anytime you use a hard recoiling cartridge in a middleweight (such as the Magnum Research Pillager, FA model 83 or Ruger Black hawk conversion) or lightweight revolver, the recoil of fired cartridges acts as a kinetic bullet puller for the remaining unfired cartridges in your cylinder. Our bullet is designed with a special crimp groove that is custom fitted to our crimp die, so we get very little bullet pull or “crimp jump”. I repeatedly fired 4 rounds in my Magnum Research 5 shot cylinder and then measured the remaining fifth round. Every time, that fifth round had grown in length by about .015 inch after being exposed to the recoil of four firings. There is enough room in the cylinder for that over-all cartridge length to grow by over .100 inch and still let the cylinder rotate. So, if you shoot three rounds (for example) and then reload, just be certain to rotate your cylinder so that those two cartridges that were already exposed to recoil and have started to grow, will be fired first, the next time you shoot.
See my below real-world velocities from real-world firearms, not laboratory test barrels.
➤ 1,494 fps ---- Magnum Research Pillager -- 5.5-inch barrel
➤ 1,580 fps ---- S&W X frame 500 S&W -- 9 inch barrel

IF YOU DO NOT READ THIS, IT IS ON YOU!
All shooters are being inconvenienced with what is happening to our society and the rush it is causing on ammo supplies. We have LOTS of ammo in stock and are making more at a huge volume on a daily basis. If our web site allows you to order any item, that means it is in stock—WE DO NOT TAKE ORDERS FOR ITEMS WE DO NOT HAVE! So, please do not email and ask if items are in stock. If they aren’t, the shopping cart will not take your order.
We have hundreds of customers to get orders to on a daily basis. In order for us to accomplish this for our customers, we ask the following.
Be sure of what you are ordering. You are going to get what you ordered.
Do not contact us and ask to change an order you’ve already placed. When we manually change orders it requires a lot of time that we do not have during this rush and it keeps us from serving all of our customers. If you’d like to change an order, we can no longer do that till things slow down, so simply place another order for more product, but PLEASE, NO MORE CHANGES after the fact!
We NEVER have and never will take ammo exchanges or returns and then turn around and re-sale that ammo to unsuspecting customers as factory new ammo—this is not safe nor is it fair to customers who are buying what they think is new and safe ammo. No ammo is tamper proof! So please stop asking to exchange or get a refund for ammo you ordered, but have changed your mind about.
Please do not contact us and ask for tracking numbers or “when will my ammo ship”? Our system automatically emails out tracking numbers on the orders we ship each day, however, because these emails are coming from a corporation shopping cart, many of these emails may go to your spam folder……..please look there. If it is not in your spam folder, that means we have not yet shipped. At current order rates, we are shipping within 5-7 business days of the time an internet order is placed. Please sit tight. Your ammo will arrive at the same time if you track it or not and will certainly arrive later if we are swamped answering questions instead of getting orders shipped. When 30-50 people per day send emails asking for tracking information and we have to pull that information up, then type it out and email it, it takes a huge portion of our work day that we should be using to ship those orders to customers in need. Please leave us alone so we can serve all of you. (ship to you) It’s a bit selfish, during times of shortages, when so many folks need to protect their families, to slow us down because you ordered carelessly or want to change your order. Right now, we expect you to do your part to help us all get the ammo we need in our troubled country.
These measures are hopefully temporary and will not be needed for long as we enjoy the interaction with our customers, so please, for the time being, be mindful of all those others who are also trying to get ammo during what I think is a societal meltdown/emergency. Hopefully, we can serve you all. We want you and your families to be armed and safe and we wish you the best during these trying times. My biggest concern is that things will worsen yet more, for a while. Until things straighten out in our government and society, we will have to streamline our customer service in order to serve all customers. Thank you for your understanding.
Good shooting and God bless,
